Appetite for Autumn

A warm welcome to Tablescape Thursday, hosted by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch.  I took advantage of two things with this table.  First, the beautiful sunny day and second, my daughter was visiting and I put her to work.  I keep telling her that some day, all these dishes and glasses will be hers.  I'm not so sure she thinks that's a good thing!

I took the traditional route using warm autumn colors.  This would make an ideal Thanksgiving Table and chances are I will be using it for our holiday dinner.  I just hope we get the same weather come the end of November.  We love eating outside.  It's one of the best things about living down here.

We have plenty of room at the table for 6 people.  A tablecloth is just not possible with the umbrella pole in the middle.  I have tried the round cloths with an opening in the middle but this table is too large.  I like the look of the slate top especially with these colors.

I bought these place mats and matching napkins at Tuesday Morning last year.  I waited until they went on clearance to get another set of 4.

I started layering with my rattan chargers (Beall's Outlet), my gold plates (again!),  rust salad plates (Ross), my gold square plates (Rustic Rose) and topped them all with these pumpkin appetizer plates (Ross).

I lucked out with these because they had 6 at one store.  For some reason, the discount stores like Ross, Marshall's and TJ Maxx like to tease us with only 4 plates and then make us run around to their other stores to try to complete our set.  Of course you wind up buying something else at the other store.  Clever marketing on their part!  I found 4 rust plates at one Ross and 2 at another.

The napkin rings are from Kohl's.  They usually put their home goods on sale and you can always find a coupon.  My teak flatware seemed the best choice even though it looks as if my salad fork needs a little oiling!

Until I find my amber wineglasses I will keep putting these out from Dollar Tree.  I just know those amber glasses are sitting in Pier One somewhere, just waiting to go on Clearance so I can buy them.

It's always a challenge to have a centerpiece with a pole sticking out in the middle of it.  I decided to put candles on one side (Kirkland's) and my new "root" bowl on the other.

I have been eyeing this thing in Kohl's for weeks.  After a return credit, a big sale and $10 Kohl's cash I only paid $4.39!  The sticker said $69.99 (um, yeah).  I filled it with apples, pumpkins and acorns all covered in a glitter that looks like sugar.

These salt and peppers are from the Church Thrift store by me.  At this point I had to leave the photography up to my daughter and I will say she did very well.

Of course, she got the best light of the day to take these.  Just saying...

And she got the candlelight!

And she photographed the sunset as a background for the table..

And I even think she captured the blue hour without even trying!  She's quite the little over-achiever, isn't she?  I'm just kidding!  I am very pleased she did a great job.

I should have her be my official photographer.

Thanks for taking much better pictures than your mother.

I enjoyed using these warm colors and getting a chance to show off my new root bowl.  I can't remember where I first saw one in a blog, but since then I was on a mission to find one.  Do you ever get like that?

This table went together so much easier with the my assistant's help.  I also want to thank my sister Elaine for linking up for me when I'm unable to.  I hope to return the favor someday.  Be sure to check out her table at Creating Wonderful Spaces.

She did a great job with the photos but the real test is indoors! What great placemats! Love the layering and the mix of elegant (the candlholders) and rustic (root bowl)!

Beautiful Fall tablescape. Love your new root bowl -- you'll enjoy that every season. Your daughter seems to be following in your footsteps -- maybe next time she'll set the table and let you take the photos.

I am jealous that you can set a beautiful table outside...it is cold and very windy here today! I think the rusts and golds are so wonderful this time of year. Love those pumpkin appetizer plates, they are a little different than most of the pumpkin plates I have seen.
