EZ Pottery Barn Knock Off Curtains

Let's see how well you Pottery Barn lover's know the catalog?  What's always at the end?  If you guessed window treatments you are officially obsessed!  Welcome to my world!  I want to hug my mailperson when I see her put the new catalog in my mailbox!  On occasion I buy things from Pottery Barn but mostly I use it as inspiration.  It's so full of easy DIY projects like the one I'm showing you today. 

If you look at page 146 you will find these simple curtains  They are Cameron Cotton curtain panels.

I love the classic simplicity of these.  I live in Florida and the last thing I want to do is put up big heavy drapes in my house.  It makes me hot to just think about it!  These come in different lengths and right now they are on sale.  Not for me, though.  I have fabric glue just itching to save me some money.  And with that fabric glue I can make them any length I want.  Wait a minute, are you saying that fabric is so expensive?  You're right, it usually is, but I'm not going to the fabric store.

I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond (coupon in hand!) and bought 2 of their basic ivory tablecloths in 120" length.  This set me back all of $20 ($10 each) before my coupon.  Now before you run out to your local BB and B, not all stores carry these basic tablecloths.  I have no idea why, but I asked, and they said the stores don't always carry the same items.  The last time I was in the store that had them, the price had gone up a few dollars but they are still a good value.  The fabric is nice and heavy and they iron up nicely.  They come in a few different colors too.

Here is the finished project hanging in the bay window of my bedroom.  All I did was fold under the sides and hem them with fabric glue and then make a 6 inch hem at the top and an even deeper hem at the bottom.  All with glue. 

I didn't even have to cut any fabric off (good thing as I'm scissor impaired).  To decide what length tablecloth you need just measure the space between where you will hang your rod and the floor.  Allow extra length for your upper and lower hems.  I made mine extra long in case the fabric shrinks.  The deep hem makes the bottom heavier and they will lay nicely. 

I know what my sister Elaine (Creating Wonderful Spaces) is thinking right now.  Those puddles wouldn't last 5 minutes with her "spunky" cat Eddie!  You can always do a traditional floor length hem if your pets or children are likely to mess these up but make sure you wash them first.

While I was at BB and B I found these small curtain rings and curtain rod on clearance.  Pretty close to Pottery Barns where I would have spent about 3 times as much.  The curtain clips are really easy to use and just experiment with making different pleats.  Believe me, if I can do this, anyone can!

The color goes well with my reading chair.  Just in case you're thinking I should have some pattern in this room, don't worry.

This is my king sized comforter that's on my four poster bed.  Some major pattern going on there!  My master bedroom still needs some finishing touches but I'm happy with my bargain curtains for now.
