Simple, Silver, Square

Silver bells silver bells
It's Christmas time in the city
Ring a ling hear them sing
Soon it will be Christmas day!

Welcome to Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps on the Porch.

To be honest, this carol wasn't the inspiration for this week's tablescape.  It was a set of square chargers from Target but that doesn't sound as festive!  For my second holiday themed table I went in a more simple and modern direction.  It's really fun to mix it up every week and I hope I am giving you some inspiration for your own home.

Square is very "in" these days.  I recently bought a set of dishes as a shower present and the young bride-to-be had chosen square, white dishes from Macy's.  They have such clean, simple lines.  I think they are a great choice for a young couple just starting out or anyone looking for something new.   And square plates call for square chargers like these!

Here is a close up of the design.  Can you believe they are melamine (plastic)?

I never go shopping just to buy chargers but I am always on the lookout for them.  I spotted these out of the corner of my eye at Target and I had to have them.  They're just a bit different and very large.  When I was visiting NJ last month I got to stop at The Christmas Tree Shoppe and picked up these sparkly place mats ($1 each!) so I started my place settings with them.

I topped them with my cream colored stoneware plates (Old Time Pottery $1.99 each) and a salad plate from my everyday dishes.  I finished with a cinnamon scented pine cone dusted with silver glitter.  I don't know how it is at your house but it seems as if all my decorations have glitter on them and it is literally everywhere including on me!

Since this was looking on the modern side I went with simple glassware and my acrylic clear flatware.  The napkin rings are from Old Time Pottery ($1 each) and I attempted a fan fold for my cream napkins.

For the centerpiece I used a simple long white dish with sparkly silver candles and assorted ornaments.  I gave it some height by sitting it on 2 pine cone candle holders I got from my mother..  I added 2 glass candlesticks (they were my mother's too) with silver tapers.

I resisted adding anything else to this table.  I like the modern feel it has.  It would make a nice table for New Year's Eve too.  Just add champagne glasses!

Always remember to make your centerpiece look good from all sides.  Keep in mind how things will look in candlelight.  The more sparkle the better!  I like to use a variety of textures when  going with a monochromatic color scheme like this.

I hope you enjoyed my tablescape this week.  Next week I think I will be going a more traditional route.  It may even have red and green!  Please visit the other tables by clicking on the link above.  I'm sure you will enjoy it!  And don't forget to visit my sister's blog, Creating Wonderful Spaces.

I am also joining the party at Tabletop Tuesday.

I am covered with sparkles too, and sometimes even my husband will need a dusting off!

  9. What fun elements you have put together. The charger pattern resembles a weave structure, so I am very drawn to them.

  11. It's nice to see a different tablescape for the holidays. Yours is great, and I like how the napkins look like big bows, on the corner. I am jealous you have a CTS close. Closest one to me is 3 states away! Never been to one. Thanks for your visit and nice comments.

  12. Well! I think we were at Target about the same time but a few states apart. I found the square chargers but chose the red! Hum! Maybe should have gotten the silver, too! Just seeing how you used them makes the table so beautiful! So, you found the wonderful placemats at CTS and they do have just great items. You are a great tablescaper and a great shopper! Thanks for sharing! Happy Tablescaping! Pam
