Peacocks are Popular!

A few months ago I picked up four salad plates from Marshall's with peacocks on them.  It's about time I did a table with them before they get lost in dish purgatory (that place where dishes disappear for months at a time wondering if they will ever make it on to a table?)  I pretty much google anything and everything (just ask my husband) so I put  "peacock" into google images.  Whoa!  I never realized how popular they are (so now you know where my post title comes from).  Here's just a small sample of the things I found...

Peacock wreath ( I think I remember seeing one of these at Pier One)

Peacock chair (this would be quite a commitment to the theme)

Peacock pillow (a safer choice)

Peacock vase (it looks a little blurry but trust me, it's just beautiful!)

Peacock wedding cake?  I didn't know this was such a popular theme for a wedding!  Most of the google images involved weddings.

Does that eventually lead to this?  Ha!

You can adorn yourself temporarily with a headband, earrings, eye makeup or nail polish.

Or make the ultimate commitment to peacock love with a tattoo!  This makes that chair look a bit safer.  You can always recover the chair!

I think I will stick with setting a table. More my style!

This table is bright blue and dramatic.  Kind of like the peacock himself. 

Here is the plate that started it all.  I had several different options for the dinner plate (brown, lime green) but decided to go with the blue that has a brown edge to it.

I used my rattan chargers and a blue placemat (Christmas Tree Shop)

Clear glasses to give your eyes a rest.  Water goblets are from Goodwill and the other glasses (wine? flutes?  not sure?) were a wedding gift.  Just luck that they are similar.

I found these napkin rings on clearance at Pier One.

The jewels remind me of the design on the plate.

I used my mother's teak silverware. Recently I had a reader ask me if they were Dansk.  So, of course, I googled it and sure enough they are.  That lead me to looking on ebay and with my service for 8 and serving pieces they could be worth something.  Not that I would part with them (mother rolls over in grave!)

The centerpiece is where I had some real fun.  As you may or may not know, feathers are really expensive.  I  picked up a few at a time so as not to blow my tablescaping budget ( I don't really have one of these, but I should!).  Some are from Z Gallerie, some Michael's and some Pier One (the peacock place!)

I couldn't resist these peacock balls (no giggling!) and since I had a 20% off coupon I bought 2.  I always try to keep my centerpiece attractive from all sides so I placed one in the front and one in the back..

Then I added fake greenery, a few silk flowers, more feathers and some blue things from one of those dried arrangement bundles that have a little bit of everything in them (great value in those)

It takes a lot to fill this rattan pedestal bowl but it looks so nice with the chargers.  I have already decided I will do a peacock Christmas table so I can justify my expenses on this one!

I added candles in coordinating colors.

I bought these salt cellars at Ross (yes, at Ross, you just never know!) and haven't used them yet.  Since they have no color, I thought they would be okay with the color intensity here.  I think they are cute but I'm from New Jersey, where they aren't common.  You southern girls have a distinct advantage with these things over us northeasterners!  Do you see the rainbow in this picture?  Not sure where that came from.

I think I've done justice to Mr. Peacock here.   It's so vibrant that when you pass by my dining room you can't help but look in. This table struts it's stuff pretty well if I may say so myself!.

Note:  I'm embarrased to say this, but after completing this post and looking it over, I have determined that the bird on the plate is not a peacock.  I googled blue and green birds and came up with a few that looked close but none that are a perfect match.  So I suppose this is the artist's interpretation of a blue and green bird.  The maker is Prima Design and the pattern is Daphne B but I can't find it on the internet.  Since the plate designer imagined this bird, for the sake of this post, I will imagine it's a peacock.    Otherwise I have to start over again!  Thanks for understanding as I continue to collect material for my future "blooper" post!
